Wood is a different animal than stucco or drywall. It moves with humidity, it eats coatings under UV, and coastal air is brutal on the wrong product. We spec penetrating oil stains for high-exposure decks, waterborne semi-transparent for cleaner reapplication, and solid stains where the wood is past showing. Prep is the whole game: sand, clean, let it dry, then finish.
